Pearl Valley Golf Estates is committed to a greener and safer environment
The safest way to dispose of household cooking oil is to pour it into a disposable bag and into general waste.
The kitchen at Pearl Valley Clubhouse makes use of CUCOC to collect its disposable oil for the sole purpose of biodiesel.
Pearl Valley is willing to be more responsible and sustainable in their seafood practices, and have joined SASSI’s Restaurant Programme.
As a SASSI Restaurant Supporter we have made the following commitments:
1. Phase out unsustainable seafood (NO local red-listed items)
2. Promote sustainable choices
3. Continuously evaluate seafood product ranges
4. Provide customers with adequate information e.g. Species, origin, production method, to make an ocean-friendly choice 5. Endeavour to offer seafood that is traceable to its origin.
Our aim is to minimise the impact of waste going into landfill as ‘dumping’ sites have generally reached their capacity. Pearl Valley acknowledges its responsibility to reduce recyclable waste. Glass, paper, plastic, tin and cardboard are separated at source by introducing the separation bin system and a dedicated on-site person. We also have a recycling facility for our residents to dispose of their household recyclable waste.
We monitor our progress on a monthly basis and since inception of the initiative we’ve increased our recyclable waste from 350 kg to over 4 tons. We hope to increase these numbers through awareness and continued participation from all who live and work on our beautiful Estate.
Puro and Puro Organic Coffee are the Fairtrade brands of Miko Coffee – a Belgian coffee roaster since 1801 and who has distribution centres across Europe, Australasia and Africa. Puro is also the new brand of coffee for the Pearl Valley Golf Estate.
Puro Coffee is the really “green”, “coffee-with-a-conscience” because Pearl Valley Guests purchasing a Puro Fairtrade Coffee have peace of mind that their money will not be used to further exploit third world communities. Puro and Pearl Valley fully endorse the Fairtrade global strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development in coffee communities, thereby creating opportunities for producers and workers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system.
In addition to the Fairtrade commitment the Puro brand contributes 2% of its international turnover to the World Land Trust who actively buys and protects rainforests in South America on our behalf. Puro is the only Fairtrade coffee brand that works with the World Land Trust and so far Puro has saved over 4 225 football fields.
